Dr. Elazar Hurvitz is Emeritus Professor of Biblical and Talmudic literature, and holds the Dr. Samuel Belkin Chair in Judaic Studies. He is also an ordained Rabbi. In addition, Dr. Hurvitz is the creator and curator of the Eli Michael Microfilm Center for Genizah Studies.

He is interested in Bible, Rabbinic literature (Talmud, Geonica, Reshonim), and researching literature from the Cairo Geniza.

He received the Baumel Award in 2008.

He is the author of a two-volume set. Volume one is THE CAIRO GENIZA—THE HISTORICAL INTRODUCTION and volume two is CATALOGUE OF THE CAIRO GENIZA FRAGMENTS IN THE WESTMINSTER COLLEGE LIBRARY, CAMBRIDGE.
